Stony Brook University has introduced a new initiative, Wolves of Wisdom, designed to help incoming students adjust to campus life with support from alumni. The program invited graduates from various years to share advice and insights aimed at helping first-year and transfer students make the most of their time at the university.

Over 120 alumni, representing classes from 1964 through 2025, participated by offering messages of encouragement and practical guidance. Karen Hollander Schwarz, class of 1969, emphasized the value of connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. “Allow yourself to meet and get to know people from different backgrounds than yours,” she said. “Allow yourself to spread your wings. Be empathetic. Grow and enjoy.”

The importance of campus involvement was also highlighted by Christina Geraci, class of 2004 and a member of the Alumni Association Board. “As you begin your journey at Stony Brook, I encourage you to get involved and try new things!” she stated. “Stony Brook has so much to offer. Whether it’s an interesting class on a topic you’ve always been curious about or an exciting new club, you never know where stepping out of your comfort zone might take you.”

The Wolves of Wisdom program is part of ongoing efforts by Stony Brook University alumni to foster a supportive environment for new students as they start their academic journeys.
