Amazon has announced plans to hire 250,000 seasonal workers nationwide, including 7,000 in the Tri-State area, and invest over $1 billion in wage increases. The company said in its Economic Impact Report that it has invested $52.3 billion in New York since 2010.

According to Amazon’s official newsroom announcement, the company is creating these seasonal roles across the United States to meet customer demand during the holiday season. These positions include fulfillment, delivery, and operations roles with flexible schedules and an average starting wage above $19 per hour. More than 7,000 of these jobs are based in the Tri-State area—covering New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut—with applications available through amazon.com/localjobs.

Reuters reports that Amazon has committed over $1 billion to wage and benefits investments aimed at raising hourly compensation for its fulfillment and transportation workforce. The company states that average total compensation—including elected benefits—now exceeds $30 per hour. Employees with three or more years of service experience a 35% average pay increase. Additionally, Amazon has expanded employee benefits to include a $5-per-week health plan with $5 doctor visits, pre-paid college tuition, and paid parental leave as part of its broader workforce retention strategy.

Amazon’s “How Amazon Invests in American Communities” report indicates that the company has invested $52.3 billion in New York since 2010. This report was independently analyzed by Keystone Strategy and explains that every dollar Amazon invests generates an additional $1.30 in economic activity through local supplier spending, infrastructure expansion, and employee purchases. Research conducted with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania shows that counties hosting Amazon facilities have seen median household incomes rise by over $1,400 annually and poverty rates decline by 2.7%.

According to its corporate “About Us” page, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is a global technology and e-commerce company headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos, it operates across multiple business sectors including online retail, Amazon Web Services (AWS), digital streaming, and logistics.
