Amazon has reported that small and medium-sized businesses based in New York sold over 769 million items through its online platform in 2024. This translates to an average of approximately $565,000 in annual sales per seller. The announcement was made via a company news post.
According to Amazon, independent sellers from New York constitute a substantial segment of the company’s U.S. marketplace activity. Their success is said to contribute positively to local job growth and economic development.
The company further said that more than 60% of all sales on its online store are generated by independent sellers. Additionally, over 65% of U.S.-based sellers employ at least one person within a 50-mile radius of their primary business location, highlighting Amazon’s broader influence on regional employment and entrepreneurship.
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon operates globally across various sectors including retail, logistics, and cloud computing. The company collaborates with millions of independent sellers worldwide and employs over 1.5 million individuals.
