Amelia J. Alverson has been appointed as executive vice president and chief development officer at Northwell Health. She joined the organization in October, following a 16-year tenure at Columbia University where she held the position of executive vice president for university development and alumni relations. Alverson takes over from Brian T. Lally, who will retire at the end of this year after more than a decade leading the Northwell Foundation.
At Columbia University, Alverson led The Columbia Commitment campaign, which raised $5.6 billion over five years and was considered one of the most ambitious fundraising efforts in higher education during that period. She also played a key role in major philanthropic partnerships, including gifts that resulted in renaming both the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
According to Northwell Health, these contributions have supported advances in cancer research and patient care, promoted progress in precision medicine, strengthened basic science capabilities at Columbia, and enabled VP&S to become the first medical school in the United States to eliminate student debt.
“Amelia’s leadership has helped shape some of the most transformative moments for philanthropy at Columbia,” said a spokesperson from Northwell Health. “We are confident she will bring that same vision and commitment to our mission.”
Alverson expressed her enthusiasm about joining Northwell Health: “I am honored to join an organization with such a strong reputation for innovation and excellence in health care.”
Lally’s retirement marks the end of a long career dedicated to advancing development initiatives within healthcare organizations.
