Stony Brook University welcomed Andrea Goldsmith as its seventh president, marking her first official week on campus. Goldsmith, who was selected by the SUNY Board of Trustees in February, has spent several months preparing for her new role by meeting with leaders, faculty, students, alumni, and staff across the university’s East, West, and Southampton campuses.

Campus leaders have noted Goldsmith’s active engagement and commitment to the university community. Executive Vice President and Provost Carl Lejuez said, “Because of her accomplishments and her vision, people will see her as a leader, but because of how she treats people, people will see her as one of us.”

Judi Brown Clarke, vice president for equity and inclusion and chief health equity officer at Stony Brook University, commented on Goldsmith’s background: “Her track record as an innovator, educator, and champion for equity positions her perfectly to guide us into what would be our next chapter.”

Goldsmith’s leadership approach has been described as collaborative and attentive to the needs of the campus community. More information about President Goldsmith is available on her website.
