The Bay Shore community gathered on October 5 for the Pink by the Bay celebration, an event organized to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative was led by South Shore University Hospital (SSUH) in collaboration with the Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce, with participation from local businesses and artists.
During the event, Irene Macyk, RN, president of SSUH, spoke to attendees about the importance of gratitude and resilience. She emphasized the hospital’s ongoing dedication to promoting wellness and increasing awareness around cancer. “Gratitude and resilience are at the heart of our commitment to this community,” said Macyk. “We will continue working together to support those affected by cancer.”
Peconic Bay Medical Center contributed to the occasion by partnering with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Together, they provided educational resources focused on ovarian cancer, aiming to help women make informed decisions about screenings and prevention.
According to coverage in The Islip Bulletin, local leaders and student artists were also involved in Pink by the Bay, reflecting broad community engagement in raising awareness about breast and ovarian cancers.
