Wisconsin-based BelGioioso Cheese has announced plans to invest more than $23 million in expanding its operations in New York State. The company will upgrade facilities in Glenville, Schenectady County, and Campbell, Steuben County, with a commitment to create at least 30 new jobs across the two sites. This expansion will also result in the use of an additional 100 million pounds of milk from local dairy farmers.
Empire State Development is supporting the project through up to $1.5 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits. Governor Kathy Hochul commented on the development, stating: “This decision by BelGioioso to further expand its operations upstate marks yet another chapter in New York’s agricultural success story. New York’s dairy industry serves as a crucial economic engine for our state, and we are grateful to this successful company for its continued commitment to these communities, and to area dairy farmers, who always work hard to help position our state as one of the nation’s top dairy producers.”
BelGioioso Cheese was founded in 1979 and operates eleven plants producing over 30 varieties of Italian cheeses. At the 2025 Great New York State Fair Dairy Competition, several BelGioioso brands received recognition.
In recent years, BelGioioso has made significant investments in New York State. In 2020, it completed construction of a $25 million cheese plant at Glenville Business and Technology Park. The campus includes both manufacturing and distribution facilities that will support ongoing growth. The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is contributing a $150,000 capital grant for this latest project along with a sales tax exemption on construction materials.
The company also acquired the Polly-O brand and its Campbell plant in 2021. Built in 1938, the Campbell facility is currently undergoing infrastructure upgrades and modernization efforts that include adding new product lines. The Steuben County Industrial Development Agency is providing additional assistance for these improvements. Both facility upgrades are expected to be finished by late 2027.
