The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced the temporary closure of a foot bridge at Birdseye Hollow State Forest in Steuben County. The bridge, located in the Sanford Lake Recreation Area in the town of Bath, was closed after an inspection found significant structural deterioration.
According to DEC, staff are assessing the damage and will develop a plan for either repairing or replacing the bridge. The closure affects walking access between the Sanford Lake boat launch and camping area and campsite 7 near Kettle Road. However, all areas within Sanford Lake Recreation Areas remain accessible via Kettle or Round Lake Roads.
“The closure will temporarily restrict walking access between the Sanford Lake boat launch and camping area and campsite 7 near Kettle Road. All locations in the Sanford Lake Recreation Areas remain accessible from either Kettle or Round Lake Roads,” according to DEC.
DEC plans to announce when the bridge reopens following completion of maintenance work. For additional information, individuals can contact DEC’s Bath suboffice at 607-776-2165.
