The U.S. Census Bureau has announced a prerelease webinar to discuss the upcoming 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which are set for public release on September 11, 2025. The session will provide guidance on accessing ACS data and resources, as well as offer advice on comparing statistics across different geographies and time periods.

The ACS collects a broad range of information about the U.S. population and housing. Topics include language use at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. The survey is recognized as the sole source of local estimates for many of these subjects.

According to the Census Bureau, embargo subscribers will be able to access the new one-year statistics beginning September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. This early access applies to all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional districts, metropolitan statistical areas, and other geographic regions with populations of at least 65,000 people.

Embargoed information will be available from Tuesday morning until Thursday just after midnight Eastern Time. Distribution services are not permitted to release any news stories or data files based on this information before the official public release date and time. The Census Bureau’s embargo policy outlines these restrictions in detail. All datasets will become publicly accessible by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.

Those interested in registering for embargo access can do so at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.

The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET and will feature Caleb Hopler, supervisory survey statistician from the American Community Survey Office; and Jewel Jordan, public affairs specialist from the Public Information Office.

“The webinar will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation. Attendees do not need to call into the webinar to hear the audio. Credentialed media and data users will be able to ask questions during the webinar utilizing the Q&A feature and after the presentation through audio,” according to information provided by the Census Bureau.

Registration for this event is available at https://www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2025/2024-acs-1-year-estimates-prerelease.html.
