The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025. These files are now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. The new release allows users to create custom maps using various data sources.
This year’s update introduces Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages, which provide both 2020 and current block information. The suffixes indicate blocks that have been split since 2020. These updates can be connected to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
Geospatial data from TIGER/Line products include legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries, as well as features such as roads and hydrography. Users will be able to link these geographic boundary data with upcoming 2025 demographic data on data.census.gov to visualize census tabular information on maps.
While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic information themselves, they feature geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be joined with the Census Bureau’s demographic datasets. Guidance for selecting the appropriate product is available on the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
