The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 9 is inviting the public to take part in ‘Wildlife Day’ on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center in Erie County.
Wildlife Day is an event aimed at promoting wildlife conservation through service projects and educational workshops across New York. The initiative is hosted in collaboration with Parks and Trails New York and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. It is part of the Love Our New York Lands Stewardship Days Campaign, which encourages year-round stewardship and highlights the state’s outdoor recreation resources by organizing themed events throughout the year.
Registration for Wildlife Day is now open. The DEC encourages residents to participate in community cleanups, enhancement activities, or educational events near them.
The main event at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center will be conducted in partnership with Friends of Reinstein Woods. Birding walks and talks are scheduled at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. at 93 Honorine Drive, Depew, NY 14043. Attendees can contact the center at (716) 683-5959 for more information.
Reinstein Woods will offer bird walks and discussions focused on bird conservation efforts. Free samples of bird-friendly coffee will be available to all participants. Details about specific walks and talks can be found on the Friends’ of Reinstein Woods website.
Organizers advise participants to dress appropriately for the weather and wear supportive walking shoes if they plan to join a birding walk. The event welcomes attendees of all ages who register in advance.
