Northwell Health has partnered with Flying Cork Media to produce an episode of Tomorrow’s World Today, focusing on the science of bioelectronic medicine and vagus nerve neuromodulation. The episode, titled “Revolutionary Research,” is scheduled to air on the Discovery and Science Channels on Saturday, August 23, at 10 a.m. EST.
Bioelectronic medicine is an area that combines molecular medicine, neuroscience, and bioengineering to create devices that interact with the nervous system. These targeted devices are being developed to treat or potentially cure diseases and injuries. One specific focus in this field is vagus nerve stimulation, which may help manage conditions linked to uncontrolled inflammation such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, cancer, and diabetes.
The television special aims to highlight advances made within Northwell Health’s laboratories. Northwell has recently opened its first clinical Center for Bioelectronic Medicine earlier this year as part of its ongoing investment in this field. This initiative follows research led by Kevin J. Tracey, MD, who serves as president and CEO of the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research at Northwell Health and authored The Great Nerve: The New Science of the Vagus Nerve and How to Harness Its Healing Reflexes. Dr. Tracey appears in the episode alongside other scientists from the Feinstein Institutes.
According to Northwell Health representatives: “Northwell often turns to storytelling across entertainment platforms to demystify the complex realities of health care and science. This approach aims to educate, inform and inspire audiences by making these topics accessible and engaging for all audiences.”
