The New York State Department of Public Service announced on May 5 that the Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission will hold an in-person public comment hearing regarding the Chateaugay Wind Repowering Project. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the Chateaugay Fire Company, located at 2 Lake Street in Chateaugay, New York.
The purpose of the hearing is to gather unsworn comments from the public about the application and draft permit for a proposed wind energy facility. Valcour Chateaugay NewCo, LLC submitted an application to construct and operate a 116.5-megawatt wind energy facility in both Franklin County’s Town of Chateaugay and Clinton County’s Town of Clinton. The notice of complete application was issued on January 29 under Project Permit Application Number 23-03031.
All individuals, organizations, corporations, or government agencies potentially affected by this project are invited to attend and offer comments on both the application and draft permit conditions. Oral comments may be limited to three minutes per person by the Administrative Law Judge to ensure all voices are heard; longer remarks should be submitted in writing. Both oral and written statements will carry equal weight in consideration. The session will be transcribed as part of the official record.
The venue is accessible for those with mobility impairments, and accommodations such as sign language interpreters or language assistance services can be arranged through appropriate contacts listed by state agencies. If any changes occur regarding scheduling or format—including possible cancellation or transition to a virtual event—updates will be posted on the ORES website.
Written comments must be filed with ORES by Friday, May 15 at 4:30 p.m., either online via the DPS Document and Matter Management system, by email to [email protected], or mailed directly referencing Project Permit Application Number 23-03031. Written submissions will also be posted publicly unless they contain prohibited content as defined by ORES guidelines.
Copies of all relevant documents are available for inspection during business hours at ORES’s Albany office or electronically through state websites. Additional copies can also be found at Chateaugay Memorial Library.
