Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a $40 million investment to create the Applied Technology Education Center at Hudson Valley Community College. The new 125,000-square-foot facility is part of a $64 million project scheduled to open in 2027. It will offer specialized labs and classrooms equipped with modern industry tools to prepare New Yorkers for careers in applied technology and skilled trades, such as building systems, automotive and transportation technologies, renewable energy, and semiconductor manufacturing.
The center aims to address ongoing shortages of qualified workers in these sectors by strengthening the workforce pipeline for both students and employers. Governor Hochul stated, “We’re training New Yorkers in the jobs of the future — investing in an economy that lifts up communities in the Hudson Valley and beyond. With billions of dollars in manufacturing coming to our state, it’s critical that we ensure the workforce is ready to meet this moment and move our state into a new era of innovation.”
Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said, “Governor Hochul’s strategic investments in workforce development are building the infrastructure to ensure that New York State has the skilled workers to meet the needs of growing industries with good-paying jobs. This state-of-the-art center at Hudson Valley Community College represents the latest step in our efforts and will provide training for high-demand jobs that will grow the state’s talent pipeline and strengthen our economy.”
The facility complements initiatives like SUNY Reconnect, which offers free community college tuition, fees, books, and supplies for eligible adult learners pursuing degrees in high-demand fields.
