To mark the 70th wedding anniversary of George and Carol Bauer, William and Zetta Helvey have made a $1 million donation to Norwalk Hospital. The gift is intended to honor the Bauers’ longstanding friendship with the Helveys as well as the Bauers’ significant philanthropic contributions totaling $20 million.

The funds will go toward construction of the Bauer Family Pavilion at Norwalk Hospital, a project estimated at $275 million. The pavilion will add 190,000 square feet of new inpatient space and renovate an additional 50,000 square feet. The goal is to modernize aging hospital wings and expand access to care for patients in the area.

According to Nuvance Health, this expansion aims to improve both patient experience and healthcare quality for years into the future.

A report by The Hour notes that the donation comes as part of a celebration of the Bauers’ seven decades together and their ongoing dedication to community health initiatives.

“The gift recognizes the Bauers’ extraordinary $20 million philanthropic legacy and their enduring commitment to improving health care in the community.”

Once completed, hospital officials expect that the new multidisciplinary tower will provide greater access to high-quality medical services in Norwalk.
