After 11 weeks on strike, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 1297 at Libbey Glass in Toledo have voted to ratify a union-proposed agreement. The work stoppage, which began on August 23, was in response to what the union described as unfair labor practices by the company. The newly ratified offer is now pending approval from Libbey Glass.
The agreement put forward by the union seeks to address several key concerns raised by its members. These include mandatory overtime policies that impact family time, efforts to remove certain rights and protections from union members, and increases in health insurance costs.
“This was a proactive effort by the union to bring an end to the strike and get our members back to work,” said IAM District 54 President and Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. “Our members have stayed strong and united throughout this process, and this offer represents a fair path forward that addresses their core concerns. Now Libbey has a chance to treat their employees right and accept this offer and reinstate stability to its Toledo operations.”
Libbey Glass employs about 84 IAM Union members who produce glass products in Toledo for global distribution.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents approximately 600,000 active and retired workers across various industries in North America.
