Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center has received reaccreditation as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic and Robotic Surgery from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). This marks the second time LIJ Medical Center has earned this recognition, reflecting its ongoing commitment to advanced surgical care using minimally invasive methods.
The SRC designation is reserved for facilities that meet high standards in surgical quality, patient safety, and expertise in minimally invasive procedures. The accreditation process involves thorough evaluations of surgery volume, equipment, clinical protocols, patient education programs, and initiatives aimed at continual improvement.
Surgeons at LIJ Medical Center participate in regular training simulations to stay current with developments in robotic surgery. This preparation helps ensure strong outcomes for patients undergoing these types of procedures.
Minimally invasive techniques used at LIJ can lead to less post-operative pain, lower risk of complications, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times for patients. These advantages allow individuals to resume their daily activities sooner with minimal disruption.
“We’re proud to recognize LIJ Medical Center and its staff for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all of our patients,” said Michael Gitman, MD, senior vice president and president of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. “These accreditations signal that our facility is among the best in these specialties and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
The reaccreditation process includes on-site inspections by SRC representatives who review all personnel involved in the robotic surgery program. Inspectors collaborate with staff to ensure compliance with best practices while offering guidance on ongoing improvement efforts.
This achievement highlights teamwork among surgeons, nursing staff, and leadership at LIJ Medical Center. The designation places the hospital among a select group worldwide recognized by SRC for excellence in robotic surgery.
