Hedge fund manager Marc Lasry has listed his penthouse at 55 Central Park West for $42 million, according to a report by Crain’s. The property, which was featured as the Shandor Building in the 1984 film “Ghostbusters,” is the highest-priced co-op currently on the market in New York City, as noted by StreetEasy.
Lasry, co-founder of Avenue Capital Group and former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, purchased the four-bedroom duplex with his wife, Cathy, in 2013 for $33 million. Despite the current asking price, when adjusted for inflation, the listing represents a loss compared to their original purchase.
The penthouse offers 2,200 square feet of terraces, a living room with a fireplace overlooking Central Park, a primary suite with a dressing room, and a library featuring a bar and high ceilings. The building itself is a 19-story Art Deco structure built in 1930. It includes amenities such as a children’s playroom and a roof deck.
Douglas Elliman’s Alan Nickman and Stephen O’Neal are handling the listing alongside Compass agents including Allison Chiaramonte.
Avenue Capital Group, founded in 1995, manages over $10 billion in assets worldwide. Lasry was part of the group that acquired a stake in the Milwaukee Bucks for $550 million in 2014. He sold his share to the Haslam family in 2023, with the franchise valued at $3.5 billion at that time.
In addition to this listing, Lasry previously sold a one-bedroom apartment at 812 Fifth Avenue for $9.5 million in 2019 and a six-story townhouse at 4 East 74th Street for $31.5 million in 2018.
