The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced that its Climate Justice Working Group (CJWG) will hold a meeting on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The CJWG is responsible for setting criteria to identify disadvantaged communities in the state. This identification is used for co-pollutant reductions, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, regulatory impact statements, and investment allocation under the Climate Act.

According to DEC, “This meeting will include the approval of minutes from the previous meeting(s) and an update on DEC’s urban heat island mapping project. Members of the public are welcome to listen to the meeting via webcast. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged and can be done by clicking the WebEx link below.”

The virtual meeting will begin at 2 p.m., with options for public participation through a WebEx webcast or by phone. In-person attendance is also available at several locations across New York State: NY Green Bank in New York City; NYSERDA Headquarters in Albany; Broome County Public Library in Binghamton; DEC Region 8 Office in Avon; and DEC Region 9 Office in Buffalo.

A recording of the meeting will be posted on the Climate Act website within three days or as soon as possible after the event.
