The New York State Department of Health has announced the receipt of over $260 million in federal reimbursement funding to support the 2024 Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The program provides nutrition education and meal reimbursements, assisting providers in serving healthy meals and snacks to children and adults in day care settings. Reimbursement is determined by the number of qualifying meals and snacks served to enrolled participants.
“Nutrition is the foundation of good health,” said State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald. “Through the Child and Adult Care Food Program, thousands of families across New York receive access to nutritious meals, helping to build healthier futures. This funding plays a vital role in advancing our mission to promote health equity and ensure every New Yorker has the opportunity to live a healthy and full life.”
There are currently 1,275 sponsoring organizations involved with CACFP across New York State, representing 13,135 licensed or registered center-based or family day care sites. On average, these providers serve about 408,000 meals daily at participating facilities.
Programs eligible for CACFP include various types of child care centers as well as adult day care centers. Support for free or reduced-price meals is based on household income levels.
