Michelle Di Bona, an operating room booker at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, intervened after witnessing a car crash on the Long Island Expressway on October 7. The driver was found unconscious, suspected of suffering from a drug overdose.
Di Bona had previously participated in Northwell Health’s Overdose Awareness Day event in August, where approximately 3,300 Narcan kits were distributed to employees across the organization. She kept one of these kits in her car.
Upon encountering the emergency, Di Bona retrieved her Narcan kit and administered two doses to the driver, who regained consciousness at the scene.
The incident was reported by Newsday, which highlighted Di Bona’s actions and preparedness.
“Newsday profiled Ms. Di Bona’s quick thinking and courage in a cover story.”
