Northwell Health is marking the 40th anniversary of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by emphasizing its commitment to early detection, education, and advanced treatment options for women. The organization is focusing on regular mammograms and new strategies in breast cancer care.
Throughout October, Northwell Health has collaborated with patients, survivors, clinicians, and advocates to host educational events and community walks aimed at increasing awareness about breast cancer. Survivors from the region have shared their experiences to encourage others facing similar challenges.
“Northwell is providing early detection, including regular mammograms, as well as cutting-edge treatment strategies for women facing the disease. Breast cancer survivors across our region have bravely shared personal stories to inspire and empower others,” a Northwell spokesperson said.
The health system’s physicians have also been active in speaking with news media outlets about recent scientific developments related to breast cancer. Their goal is to inform people so they can take steps toward protecting their health.
During this month’s activities, various stories have highlighted advances in genetic testing that allow families to address hereditary risks. Other reports featured new tools for estimating breast cancer risk and emerging therapies that may be more effective than traditional chemotherapy for certain aggressive forms of the disease.
As part of its efforts, Northwell Health continues working with local communities and advocacy groups while promoting research-driven approaches to support women through every stage of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
