NYSUT President Melinda Person has expressed support for the State University of New York (SUNY) Trustees’ decision to disapprove the presidential appointment put forward by the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees.

Person stated, “The Board of Trustees’ decision today is a responsible and necessary step toward restoring stability and confidence in Nassau Community College leadership. Visionary, sustainable leadership cannot be built on prolonged interim arrangements.”

She emphasized the importance of involving campus stakeholders in the selection process: “Students, faculty, and staff deserve a president who is chosen through an open process that reflects the voices of the people who learn and work on this campus every day.”

Person added that a comprehensive search with input from across the college community would help address challenges facing Nassau Community College. “A thorough search rooted in shared governance and campus input will help Nassau Community College fulfill its true potential, rebuild trust and refocus on its core mission.”

The SUNY Trustees’ proposed resolution specifically disapproves the appointment of Dr. Maria Conzatti as President of Nassau Community College.
