NYU Langone Health has achieved the top spot in two major quality rankings by Vizient Inc. for its inpatient and outpatient locations, marking the fourth consecutive year it has led these national assessments. Vizient, a healthcare performance organization, evaluates hospitals based on mortality and infection rates, patient experience scores, and other important quality indicators.
The Manhattan inpatient locations of NYU Langone were ranked No. 1 out of 118 comprehensive academic medical centers for the fourth year in a row. The health system’s network of more than 320 ambulatory sites was also named the No. 1 physician practice out of 66 networks nationwide, a distinction NYU Langone has received in 10 of the past 12 years.
Other NYU Langone facilities were recognized as well. NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn both placed among the top ten nationally in Vizient’s large, specialized complex medical center category. In addition, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk moved from the community hospital cohort to the complex care medical center cohort due to its expansion and ability to perform more advanced procedures.
“This recognition demonstrates the exceptional quality and safety standards that allow NYU Langone to offer top-quality care to patients across all of our locations,” said Alec C. Kimmelman, MD, PhD, Dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health. “It reflects the work of our dedicated and talented teams every day on the front lines and behind the scenes. It also reflects the trust we have earned across so many communities to become their family’s trusted healthcare provider.”
NYU Langone was honored at a Vizient ceremony held in Las Vegas on September 16 with both the Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award for patient care performance and the Ambulatory Quality and Accountability Award for excellence in outpatient services.
In addition to Vizient’s recognition, U.S. News & World Report recently identified NYU Langone as having more No. 1-ranked clinical specialties than any other medical center nationwide (https://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/rankings). The health system’s hospitals have also maintained an “A” rating for safety from Leapfrog Group over ten consecutive cycles (https://www.leapfroggroup.org/ratings-reports/safety-grade), and received several Magnet designations from the American Nurses Credentialing Center—a leading benchmark for nursing excellence (https://www.nursingworld.org/organizational-programs/magnet).
