NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has been verified as a Level 2 Adult Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), marking an expansion in its acute care services for Suffolk County. The new verification means the hospital is now equipped to treat all adult trauma patients, regardless of the severity of their injuries.
“This milestone recognizes the dedication of our staff and affirms our enhanced capabilities to deliver the full spectrum of adult trauma care to our patients,” said Marc S. Adler, MD, senior vice president and chief of hospital operations at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk. “Community members and our local EMS partners can feel confident knowing the highest-quality emergency care is available nearby when it’s needed most.”
The process toward achieving Level 2 status began in April 2024 with an application to elevate from Level 3 verification through both ACS and the New York State Department of Health (DOH). In October 2024, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk was designated as a Provisional Level 2 Adult Trauma Center by the state health department while awaiting final review from ACS. The comprehensive evaluation by ACS took place in July 2025, resulting in official verification. The ACS recognized the hospital’s multidisciplinary approach, injury prevention programs, outreach efforts, and its capacity to provide comprehensive trauma care.
NYU Langone Health operates as an integrated health system with seven inpatient locations, more than 320 outpatient sites across New York and Florida, two tuition-free medical schools, and a significant research enterprise. The system reported $14.2 billion in revenue this year. Vizient Inc. ranked NYU Langone first among 115 academic medical centers nationwide for three consecutive years, while U.S. News & World Report listed nine clinical specialties among the nation’s top five.
