NYU Langone hospitals have been recognized for their patient safety and quality standards, earning an “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group for the 11th consecutive time. This distinction places NYU Langone among just 1 percent of hospitals nationwide to achieve this record.

The rating applies to Tisch Hospital and Kimmel Pavilion in Manhattan, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island. NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk also improved its standing, moving from a “C” to a “B” grade eight months after merging with the health system. Since affiliating with NYU Langone in 2022, Suffolk has expanded services and made several quality improvements, including reducing average length of stay by more than a day and cutting emergency department wait times by over 70 percent to less than eight minutes. The hospital has also advanced to become an American College of Surgeons verified Level 2 adult trauma center.

“NYU Langone’s reputation in the communities we serve is built on a foundation of safe, top-quality care, thanks to our teams who put their patients first every day,” said Alec Kimmelman, MD, PhD, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Health. “Leapfrog is one of the best barometers patients can look to in determining where to receive their care, and we are proud of these ratings. This includes NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk, where the pace of improvements has been extraordinary, because of the incredible work of our teams there.”

The Leapfrog Group evaluates nearly 3,000 acute-care hospitals twice each year using 30 evidence-based measures focused on patient safety performance such as preventing medical errors and infections. Grades are peer-reviewed and available publicly. In fall 2025, just over 32 percent of hospitals nationally—and only 23 percent in New York state—received an A grade.

NYU Langone Health operates as an integrated health system offering medical services across seven inpatient locations—including Perlmutter Cancer Center—and more than 320 outpatient sites in New York and Florida. It also includes two tuition-free medical schools and maintains a significant research operation. According to Vizient Inc., NYU Langone has ranked first among comprehensive academic medical centers nationwide for four consecutive years (https://newsroom.vizientinc.com/news/vizient-announces-2024-quality-and-accountability-ranking-award-winners.htm), while U.S. News & World Report recently ranked four clinical specialties at NYU Langone as number one nationally (https://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/rankings).
