PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 94% of customers affected by a recent nor’easter that brought heavy rain and strong winds to the region. The storm, which began on Sunday morning, caused trees, branches, and wires to fall, resulting in scattered outages across Long Island and the Rockaways.

As of 4 PM on Monday, over 30,600 customers had their electricity restored since the start of the storm. Currently, 1,596 out of approximately 1.2 million electric customers remain without power.

The company reported that all PSEG Long Island employees have been mobilized for restoration efforts. This includes more than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors, and other field personnel. Additionally, about 580 off-Island workers are assisting with repairs. Crews have responded to more than 90 incidents involving downed trees and large limbs throughout the service area.

PSEG Long Island stated: “We expect the majority of customers impacted during the overnight to be restored today. We have enough personnel to respond effectively to the remaining incoming outages.” The company added that crews are working in challenging conditions and will continue until all outages are resolved.

Customers can find information about PSEG Long Island’s restoration process at psegliny.com/Outages/StormPrepandRestoration/RestorationProcess.

The utility emphasized safety around downed wires: “Downed wires should always be considered ‘live.’ Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.”

They also warned about risks related to water and generators: “Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.” Customers were reminded never to use generators indoors or close to windows or vents due to carbon monoxide dangers.

Customers can report outages using several methods: downloading the PSEG Long Island mobile app; texting OUT to PSEGLI (773454); calling the company’s 24-hour service number; or visiting psegliny.com/outages. Updates are also available on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), as well as on MyPower map at mypowermap.psegliny.com/.

PSEG Long Island expressed appreciation for customer patience: “PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without power for any length of time is a hardship and appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore electric service.”
