PSEG Long Island reported that it has restored power to over 84% of customers affected by a recent storm that brought heavy rain and strong winds, resulting in downed trees, branches, and wires across its service area.

As of 10:45 AM on Monday, the utility said more than 19,500 customers had their electricity restored since outages began at 7 AM Sunday. Currently, about 3,978 out of the company’s 1.2 million electric customers in Long Island and the Rockaways remain without power.

The company stated that all employees have been mobilized for restoration efforts. This includes more than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors, and other field personnel. Additionally, approximately 580 off-Island workers are assisting with outage response. Crews have responded to over 90 incidents involving downed trees and large limbs throughout the service area.

PSEG Long Island expects that most customers who lost power overnight will have service restored today. The company noted that additional outages may occur as winds persist but said it has sufficient personnel to respond effectively.

“Crews have been working in difficult conditions throughout the night and will continue to work safely and as quickly as possible until all outages are restored,” PSEG Long Island said in a statement.

Information about PSEG Long Island’s restoration process is available at psegliny.com/Outages/StormPrepandRestoration/RestorationProcess.

The utility acknowledged the inconvenience caused by power loss: “PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without power for any length of time is a hardship and appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore electric service.”

Customers were reminded to treat all downed wires as live and stay away from them. To report a downed wire or outage, residents can call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or dial 911. The company also warned against using generators indoors or near windows due to carbon monoxide risks and provided additional safety information at psegliny.com/safetyandreliability/stormsafety.

Customers can download the PSEG Long Island mobile app or use text messaging by sending OUT to PSEGLI (773454) for outage reporting and updates. Outages can also be reported via the app or website at psegliny.com/outages.
