Queens supermarket leads city’s top retail leases in September

A new supermarket lease in Jamaica, Queens, led the list of the largest retail leases signed in New York City during September. SuperFresh agreed to a 22,500-square-foot space at 166-20 90th Avenue, inside the Ruby Square housing development. Hymie Dweck of Ripco Real Estate represented SuperFresh, while BRP Companies handled the landlord side internally.

In Soho, athletic wear company Lululemon moved into a new 19,000-square-foot location at 524 Broadway. Jeremy Ezra of Newmark represented Lululemon; Steven Soutendijk of Cushman & Wakefield acted for the building’s owner, Northwood Investors. The space vacated by Lululemon at nearby 520 Broadway was then leased by clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch for 16,000 square feet. Erin Grace and Hilary Sievers at JLL represented Abercrombie & Fitch; Steven Soutendijk also represented Northwood Investors in this transaction.

Restaurateur Amit Upadhyay signed a lease for a yet-to-be-named Indian restaurant spanning 17,000 square feet at 622 Third Avenue near Grand Central Terminal. Emilian Derguti of Capstone Properties NY acted for Upadhyay; Marc Horowitz of Cohen Brothers Realty and a team from Newmark represented the landlord.

Other notable deals included Prime Liquidation taking 12,000 square feet at 2184 Clarendon Road in Flatbush. A four-member KSR team handled both sides of that deal with Joey Araman as landlord. In Soho again, fashion brand Calzedonia secured an 8,400-square-foot lease at 501 Broadway through representation by Jason Stein and Michael Paster of Newmark alongside Odyssey Retail Advisors; Joanne Podell and Michael Shalom from Cushman & Wakefield acted for landlord Crane Partners.

Cosmetics retailer Sephora signed for a new location measuring 7,800 square feet at 1 St Marks Place in the East Village with representation from Retail by MONA; REEC owns the property. Pop Mart took on a Times Square spot with a 7,000-square-foot lease at 1540 Broadway owned by Vornado Realty Trust.

Burger restaurant Corner Bistro leased a new site comprising 6,000 square feet at 94 Avenue A in the East Village; Joshua Singer and Nick Marshall from Heller Organization worked with Corner Bistro while Andrew Stern and colleagues from Newmark assisted landlord Penn South Capital.

Furniture store From the Source completed a deal for nearly 5,900 square feet at Hudson Square’s 315 Hudson Street; Brett Greenberg and Adam Rappaport managed leasing matters internally for Jack Resnick & Sons.
