The Finance & Administration division at Stony Brook University is launching its third annual food drive, aiming to surpass last year’s record of 837 pounds of donations by collecting at least half a ton in 2026.
The initiative supports the Stony Brook University Seawolves Pantry, which provides food and hygiene products to students, staff, and faculty facing food insecurity. The pantry has become increasingly important as rising grocery prices put additional strain on community members. Since the start of the academic year, it has served as an essential resource for those balancing daily responsibilities with basic needs.
Organizers are asking for non-perishable items such as pasta, pasta sauce, cereal boxes, peanut butter and jelly, rice, canned fruit, granola bars, evaporated milk, as well as hygiene products like toothpaste, hand soap, shampoo and deodorant. Donations can be placed in designated bins across campus during Valentine’s Day week from Monday, February 2 through Friday, February 13.
“With prices of food increasing at the grocery store, the pantry desperately needs help. Since the academic year began, the pantry has served as a critical lifeline for Seawolves, balancing life’s demands with basic needs. If you’re able to purchase extra non-perishable food during your next trip to the grocery store, or donate items already in your cabinets at home, even small donations go a long way,” organizers stated.
The university encourages all who are able to contribute during this period to support those experiencing food insecurity within their community.
