Tracy Cavanaugh, RN, has been selected as one of six nurses across the United States for the fourth cohort of the Jonas-Flynn Oncology Nurse DNP Scholars program. This program is a collaboration between Jonas Nursing and the Flynn Foundation, which supports doctoral nursing students working to improve healthcare for cancer patients. Since its inception, the Jonas-Flynn scholarships have provided $550,000 in financial support.
Cavanaugh serves as director of the adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner program and clinical instructor at Stony Brook University School of Nursing. She also practices as an adult gerontological acute care nurse practitioner at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and is pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Quinnipiac University.
“This award underscores Professor Cavanaugh’s significant contributions to oncology nursing and the preparation of nurses to deliver expert, compassionate care,” said School of Nursing Dean Patricia Bruckenthal. “This recognition is a testament not only to their leadership and scholarship but also to their unwavering commitment to advancing nursing education and improving patient care.”
Jonas Nursing aims to strengthen the nursing profession by developing leaders who will help address workforce shortages through education and focus on underserved communities’ health needs. The Flynn Foundation works with educational institutions, hospitals, and philanthropic partners to increase both the number and preparedness of oncology nurses by providing paid fellowships that include clinical experience, specialized training in compassionate care, mentoring opportunities, and career development pathways.
