Stony Brook Southampton will host a Black History Month film series titled “Lives, Legacy, and the Long Road to Justice” over three nights from February 19 to 21. The event is part of Stony Brook University’s efforts to promote education, dialogue, and community engagement.
The series will be held at The Avram on the Southampton campus. It will begin on Thursday, February 19 with “Fences,” a film adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. On Friday, February 20, the program continues with “42,” which tells the story of Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947. The series concludes Saturday, February 21 with “Selma,” focusing on the 1965 voting rights marches led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Tickets are priced at $10 per screening or $28 for all three films. They can be purchased online through the Stony Brook Southampton website.
According to organizers, “Lives, Legacy, and the Long Road to Justice invites audiences to reflect on the individuals and movements that have shaped Black history in the United States. Through stories of family, brilliance, and activism, the series highlights how personal lives intersect with larger historical forces and how the pursuit of justice continues across generations.”
