Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has been recognized as the top hospital for pediatric care in New York State by Money, and is ranked No. 7 nationwide on the publication’s list of Best Hospitals for Pediatric Care in 2025.

“Being ranked as the top hospital for pediatric care is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence,” said William Wertheim, MD, executive vice president of Stony Brook Medicine. “Our team of dedicated professionals works tirelessly to ensure that each child receives the best possible care. We are proud to lead in pediatric healthcare and meet the needs of the families we serve.”

“This ranking reflects the steady dedication and expertise of our entire team in providing the highest quality of care and support to our young patients and their families,” said Carol Gomes, chief executive officer at Stony Brook University Hospital. “We remain committed to advancing pediatric medicine and ensuring the best outcomes for our community.”

Money’s evaluation process began with more than 6,000 hospitals across the United States that had received either a four- or five-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The publication partnered with Denniston Data to measure quality by identifying high-performing doctors based on experience with specific procedures. In addition to clinical performance, Money included overall costs in its assessment, aiming to address how healthcare expenses impact households. Hospitals were then given a Composite Ranking Score reflecting staff experience.

To be considered for this specialty list, hospitals needed active pediatric specialists on staff. The methodology used by Money is detailed on their website.

The ranking also considered data from Stony Brook Children’s Hospital (SBCH), which is Suffolk County’s first and only children’s hospital. SBCH employs over 180 pediatric specialists across 30 specialties and holds distinctions such as being Suffolk County’s only Level 4 Regional Perinatal Center and Level 1 Regional Pediatric Trauma Center. It houses specialized centers including the nation’s first Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Center, a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Center, Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity Center, Healthy Weight and Wellness Center, Cystic Fibrosis Center, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program, Pediatric Cardiology Program, and Pediatric HIV and AIDS Center.
