The Stony Brook University Hospital Blood Donor Center is seeking to reach its target of 250 donors for January. The center has experienced challenges in blood collection and distribution due to recent weather conditions.

Members of the Stony Brook University community are being encouraged to donate blood or platelets. “Every single donation helps save lives and brings the center one step closer to hitting its goal,” according to the Blood Donor Center.

Donors can schedule appointments online or by calling (631) 444-DONATE (3662). The center operates Monday through Saturday, and while walk-ins are accepted, appointments are recommended.

All donations must be made at the Donor Room in the Blood Donor Center, located in the hospital lobby on level 5. As a token of appreciation, whole blood donors will receive a backpack and platelet donors will get a folding camping chair, while supplies last.
