Stony Brook University has announced a partnership with Santander US to launch the Pathways to Employability initiative. The two-year program is aimed at supporting first-generation and Pell-eligible college students by providing them with career-focused experiential learning and workforce skills.

The initiative, managed by the Stony Brook Career Center, will include professional development workshops tailored to students’ needs, mentorship opportunities, and visits to corporate sites. The program is also set to provide scholarships and support for graduate student coordinators.

Marianna Savoca, Associate Vice President for Career Readiness and Experiential Education at Stony Brook University, said: “Being the first in your family to attend college means blazing a trail without a clear map. At the Career Center, we want to be that guide — helping our ‘firsts’ navigate with confidence and excitement. With Santander’s generous gift, we’re building a model that can grow here and inspire replication across other institutions.”

The funding from Santander US is intended to help students gain confidence, exposure to industry environments, and secure internships as part of their preparation for entering the workforce.
