Donald Trump’s childhood home in Queens is back on the market following a significant renovation. The Tudor-style house at 85-15 Wareham Place, where Trump spent his early years, is listed for $2.3 million after being purchased earlier this year by developer Tommy Lin for $835,000. The property had been abandoned and in poor condition before Lin acquired it.
The five-bedroom residence in Jamaica Estates was originally built in 1940 by Fred Trump, Donald Trump’s father. After living there briefly, the family moved to a larger nearby home. Over eight months, Lin invested about $500,000 to completely renovate the approximately 2,500-square-foot interior while preserving its original brick-and-stucco exterior.
The current asking price equates to $920 per square foot. Jevon Gratineau of Brown Harris Stevens is handling the listing.
This sale adds another chapter to the home’s eventful history. In 2008, it sold for $782,000. In 2016, investor Michael Davis bought it for $1.39 million just before Trump’s election night victory and later sold it to a buyer from China for $2.14 million within months.
Davis also leased out the property and listed it on Airbnb for about $800 per night during his ownership. He decorated it with Trump memorabilia and posted a sign suggesting that one bedroom could have been where Trump was conceived. The Airbnb listing ended in 2017 after Oxfam rented the house as part of an initiative highlighting the refugee crisis.
Jamaica Estates has seen median home prices around $1.5 million as of September according to Realtor.com (https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-search/Jamaica_Estates_New_York_NY/overview). Some properties nearby have recently sold for up to $4 million and several others are listed above $3 million.
It remains uncertain whether association with Trump’s name will influence this property’s value.
