The U.S. Census Bureau has released new data tables that provide details on the foreign-born population by generation, based on information from the 2024 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC).

These tables offer social and economic data for three groups: first-generation individuals who are foreign-born, second-generation individuals with at least one foreign-born parent, and third-and-higher generation individuals with two U.S. native parents living in the United States.

According to the Census Bureau, “The new table package provides social and economic information on the employment status, education, household income, poverty status, race, age, and sex of the first generation (those who are foreign-born), second generation (those with at least one foreign-born parent), and third-and-higher generation (those with two U.S. native parents) population living in the United States.”

The Current Population Survey is recognized as one of the nation’s oldest and largest surveys. It is primarily used to gather monthly labor force statistics but also supports other studies that inform about Americans’ economic and social conditions.

No formal news release was issued alongside this data; only a tip sheet was provided.
