Willa Smith has been named the new regional center director of the Stony Brook Small Business Development Center (SBDC). She replaces Martha Stansbury, who previously led the center.

Smith has a long history with the New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC) network. Her background includes work in small business advising, portfolio management, and entrepreneurial development. She has helped both startups and established companies secure funding, improve their operations, and grow sustainably.

The Stony Brook SBDC is part of the NYSBDC network and offers confidential business advising, training, and research services at no cost to small businesses and entrepreneurs on Long Island. The center works with organizations such as the U.S. Small Business Administration and New York State to promote innovation and job creation in different industries.

“Willa brings a strong record of leadership and a deep understanding of what it takes to help small businesses grow and thrive,” said Michael Kinch, Stony Brook University’s Chief Innovation Officer. “Her experience and vision will be instrumental in expanding the SBDC’s role as a driver of innovation and economic opportunity across our region.”
