Winter getaways across New York State offer group-friendly adventures

New York State is highlighting a range of winter getaway options designed for groups of friends seeking seasonal activities across the state. The suggestions include destinations from Lake Placid in the Adirondacks to Montauk on Long Island, each offering unique experiences and accommodations.

In Lake Placid, visitors can stay at the Whiteface Lodge Resort & Spa, which features amenities such as a bowling alley, movie theater, ice skating rink, spa, restaurant, and heated outdoor pool. Activities in the area include skiing or snowboarding at Whiteface or Gore mountains, skating at the Olympic Oval, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, and visiting the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. The town will also host winter sporting events and celebrations leading up to the Milano Cortina 2026 Games.

Niagara Falls offers indoor entertainment at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino with gaming, dining, shopping, and live music. Outdoor activities include hiking in Niagara Falls State Park and wine tasting along the Niagara Falls Wine Trail.

In Canandaigua in the Finger Lakes region, The Lake House provides lakeview accommodations with access to yoga classes and spa services. Visitors can participate in culinary workshops at New York Kitchen or attend local festivals like Fire & Ice Winter Festival scheduled for February 21-22, 2026.

Montauk on Long Island presents off-season rates at resorts such as Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa. Activities include coastal hikes in state parks, seal watching tours organized by CRESLI and Montauk Point State Park naturalists during seal season, wine tastings at local vineyards like Wölffer Estate Vineyard, and group spa sessions.

Saratoga Springs offers stays at The Adelphi Hotel with Michelin recognition. Winter events include Saratoga Chowderfest on February 7, 2026. Other attractions are mineral baths at Roosevelt Baths and Spa and museums such as the National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame.

Cooperstown’s Otesaga Resort serves as a base for visits to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Brewery Ommegang. Winter activities extend to Glimmerglass State Park for snowshoeing and ice skating when conditions permit.

Wellesley Island in Thousand Islands-Seaway provides year-round cottages within Wellesley Island State Park for those interested in hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or ice fishing on Eel Bay or St. Lawrence River.

Manhattan remains a draw during winter months with NYC Winter Outing (January 20-February 12), featuring two-for-one tickets to Broadway shows and attractions as well as prix-fixe meals during Restaurant Week.

Peek’n Peak Resort in Western New York offers skiing and tubing alongside nearby attractions like the National Comedy Center in Jamestown.

For an all-inclusive retreat focused on wellness in Neversink (Catskills), Hemlock Neversink provides creative workshops and farm-to-table dining without distractions such as televisions in rooms.

Hudson’s Maker Hotel gives guests access to boutique amenities while allowing exploration of Warren Street’s shops or cultural sites such as Olana State Historic Site.
